I recently started investigating plein air paintings as a way to understand and the place and environment that I inhabit. This summer (2023) I was fortunate enough to be able to work with 4 student summer research fellows at McDaniel where we used plein air paintings to better understand lights effect on color, paint application, use of a limited palette, and learning to understand how our choices in composition and setting might lead to further developing our investigations into place.
